The Segura basin (CHS) cleanse the channels of Mayes and Rambla del Segura River as it passes through the town of Villanueva del Rio Segura in order to ensure its hydraulic capacity and prevent overflow and flood risks in the area in case of flooding.

The local mayor, José Luis López, has made this request to the president of the CHS, Miguel Ángel Ródenas, during the meeting the two held today at the headquarters of the basin organization.

This project is complementary to the special campaign of cutting reeds that CHS runs each summer in Villanueva del Rio Segura and eleven other municipalities in the Vega Media to optimize the discharge capacity of the river Segura in a stretch of 70 kilometers long (from Abarán to Murcia).
